Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why is my hot water heater running out so fast?
If you notice the supply of hot water isn’t lasting long, it may be an issue with your tank water heater. The heating element could be too dirty from grime or mineral buildup.
-
My toilet won't stop running. Why?
A constantly running toilet could be dealing with several potential problems, such as a broken flapper seal, flush valve or flapper chain. Sometimes it’s the handle itself that’s been damaged and separated from the chain. A running toilet wastes a lot of water, so don’t hesitate to contact our plumbers at 315-313-6531.
-
Why isn’t my dishwasher draining?
One of the most common reasons your dishwasher isn’t draining correctly is because the drain line is clogged. The line, also called a drain hose, removes water from the dishwasher tub at the end of a cycle. If the drain line is clogged, water may not be able to flow properly. Contact our certified plumbers for troubleshooting and repairs.

What should I do if a pipe bursts?
A quick response is important if you’re dealing with a burst pipe as a result of freezing. Expert plumbers should handle broken pipe repairs, but there are several things you can do on your own to keep the pipes from freezing in the first place:
Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing. Be sure to move any harmful cleaners and household chemicals up out of the reach of children.
Let the cold water drip from faucets served by exposed pipes. Running water through the pipe—even at a trickle—helps prevent ice from forming and freezing.
Minimize changes to the thermostat and keep your home at least 50 degrees, even when you’re not home.

What should I do if my garbage disposal smells?
Grind up food scraps right away with cold water and leave the disposal on for about 30 seconds to minimize the risk of clogs. You should also never put coffee grounds, eggshells, potato peels and other large pieces of food into the disposal, because they produce drainage issues and bad smells.
