What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Falso Service Experts in East Syracuse always talks about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds encouraging, what does it really mean?

NATE is the acronym for North American Technician Excellence and, as mentioned on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed nearly 20 years ago and is supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not everyone in the industry is required to be certified through NATE. The certification is discretionary and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to Falso Service Experts that our technicians are NATE-certified to make sure we are sending the most qualified and professional technicians into your home. To make sure professionals meet these criteria, the NATE-certification assessments validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based assessments that assess the technician’s knowledge of these subjects.

Since Falso Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only specific areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE test candidates may receive installation and/or service certification in one or more of the skill areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Ground Source Heat Pump Loop Installer
  • Senior HVAC Efficiency Analyst
